Bonnie Tyler has woken up from a coma but remains seriously ill in hospital.

The iconic pop star – known for her 1983 hit Total Eclipse Of The Heart – is in hospital in Faro, Southern Portugal, and while she is still very unwell, doctors have reportedly given her a positive prognosis.

Bonnie, 75, is expected to make a full recovery, according to her representative, “Bonnie is no longer in a coma, but remains seriously ill.” This comes as Bonnie’s pal offered an update following her deteriorating health.

The Welsh singer was in an induced coma from early May, according to a report from Entertainment Weekly.

Her manager, Matt Davis, said at the time, “Bonnie has been put into an induced coma by her Doctors to aid her recovery. We know that you all wish her well and ask for privacy at this difficult time, please. We will issue a further statement when we are able to.”

The announcement followed a statement from her management that the singer had undergone emergency surgery in Portugal.

A statement published to her website read, “We are very sorry to announce that Bonnie has been admitted to hospital in Faro, Portugal, where she has a home, for emergency intestinal surgery. The surgery went well and she is now recuperating.”

The statement continued, “We know that all of her family, friends, and fans will be concerned about this news and will be wishing her well for a full and swift recovery.”

Additional reports at the time suggested that Bonnie had gone into cardiac arrest after her doctors attempted to bring her out of the precautionary coma.

Bonnie became famous thanks to her trademark husky toned singer in the ’70s, releasing a string of hits such as It’s a Heartache and Holding Out For a Hero.

She released her latest album The Best is Yet to Come, in2021. She has been touring regularly over the years and most recently performed in London in the UK in March.

She was originally scheduled to continue performing at various global locations throughout May before she became unwell.
