MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis Art Museum, alongside Mayor Paul Young, announced it will open its 123,000 square foot cultural campus to the public in December.
And the best part is, admission will be free for Shelby County residents forever.
Leaders said the museum reflects Memphis’ culture and spirit, and called it an open invitation for residents across Shelby County to visit often and engage with the arts.
“I think the best art museums are free because citizens can use it whenever they want with no restrictions,” said Zoe Kahr, Executive Director at the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art.
Officials said the museum is designed to expand access to art and community space. It has more than 600 percent more free public areas, including a rooftop sculpture garden and a central community courtyard named Hyde Square.
The museum is scheduled to open on December 6.
