WASHINGTON (TNND) — Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. denied that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention spent $1.24 billion on COVID-19 vaccines.

“The claim that CDC has already spent $1.24 billion on COVID-19 vaccines is simply wrong,” Kennedy wrote on the social media platform, X Thursday evening. “The contracts cited are indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contracts put in place ahead of the season to ensure availability if needed.”

It was reported earlier this month that the CDC awarded Pfizer $1.24 billion for COVID-19 vaccines.

Federal contracts and notices that were published on SAM.gov, the CDC reportedly gave a Pfizer $735.7 million contract for pediatric vaccines for children and a $505.3 million contract for adult COVID-19 vaccines.

“HHS and CDC have not purchased COVID-19 vaccines for the upcoming respiratory season and have made no decisions regarding future purchases,” Kennedy said. “IDIQ contracts allowing future orders are not the same as spending taxpayer dollars.”

Kennedy has been a critic of vaccines before becoming head of Health and Human Services.

In a separate post on X, he thanked Wisconsin GOP Sen. Ron Johnson for his investigation into vaccine risks.

“Thank you @SenRonJohnson for your relentless investigation of undisclosed vaccine risks and the official efforts of the Biden administration to conceal them from the public,” he said.
