President Donald Trump on Saturday announced he is nominating State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce to serve as the United States’ deputy representative to the United Nations, with the rank of ambassador.

“I am pleased to announce that I am nominating Tammy Bruce, a Great Patriot, Television Personality, and Bestselling Author, as our next Deputy Representative of the United States to the United Nations, with the rank of Ambassador,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. He said Bruce has been “serving with distinction” in her current role and “will represent our Country brilliantly at the United Nations.”

Bruce has been one of the State Department’s most visible figures in the first six months of Trump’s second term, leading regular briefings on foreign policy.

Her nomination comes as the US remains without a permanent UN ambassador. Mike Waltz, who briefly served as Trump’s national security adviser, had his confirmation hearing for the top UN post last month, but the Senate has yet to vote.

Trump appointed Bruce to the State Department in January, continuing his trend of naming former Fox News contributors to senior roles. A former Democrat and self-described liberal activist, Bruce later shifted to conservative politics and became a supporter of Trump’s MAGA movement.

The deputy representative post requires Senate confirmation, meaning Bruce will face lawmakers’ scrutiny. If confirmed, she will take the role at a time when US policies, particularly Trump’s strong backing of Israel during its Gaza offensive, have drawn criticism from some allies.
