LINCOLN, Vt. (WCAX) – What was previously a quiet mountain road has been transformed into a path of complete destruction carved by an EF-1 tornado Thursday afternoon.
York Hill Road near Lincoln shows the aftermath of the twister, which narrowly missed multiple homes along its 500-yard path.
Residents like Randy Brown, who live along the road, are counting their blessings.
“It scared me because who knows what my house would look like when I got home. There’s nothing, ya know?” Brown said.
Despite the damage, Brown said it could have been much worse.
“Cause if that hit here, this place would be a pile of rubble. I mean you saw what it looked like down there,” Brown said.
Though it hit a rural area, the tornado narrowly missed multiple homes along its path.
“It doesn’t seem like this could happen right here in Lincoln, actually. You see it like all over in the Midwest and other areas. It’s pretty scary,” said Sommer Lathrope, a Lincoln resident.
Sarah and Sommer Lathrope live nearby. They said seeing the damage is astounding.
“We were aware of it, but never thought it would actually happen, or not here in Lincoln anyway,” Sarah Lathrope said.
But for other area residents like Ted Desmond, it’s not a shock at all.
“Yeah well, this is what happens when you have a tornado. It knocks down trees,” said Desmond, a Bristol resident.
The National Weather Service rated the tornado an EF-1 with wind speeds up to 105 miles per hour.
