Baxter Health has earned redesignation through the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Magnet Recognition Program, reflecting the the commitment of nurses to excellent patient care and professional development at the hospital.
Magnet recognition is considered one of the highest honors in health care and is recognized as a gold standard for nursing excellence. The designation is awarded through a rigorous, evidence-based review of nursing leadership, clinical outcomes, the professional practice environment and continued improvement. Fewer than 10 percent of hospitals in the country hold the status at any given time, and Baxter Health is one of only five hospitals in the state to hold the designation.
The hospitals redesignation included recognition of nine exemplars by the Magnet appraisal team. Exemplars are optional distinctions given when appraisers identify a practice, program or concept as exceptional and worthy of being used as an example by other organizations.
Baxter Health President and CEO Ron Peterson said the recognition reflects the work nurses do each day. “Earning Magnet redesignation is a proud moment for every nurse, every care team member, and every leader at Baxter Health,” Peterson said. “This recognition reflects the skill, dedication, and professionalism our nurses demonstrate every day for every patient, and it is also a commitment to keep growing. We do not stand still. We will continue building the kind of environment where excellent nurses want to practice and where patients receive the very best care available close to home.”
Rachel Gilbert, MSN, RN, vice president and chief nursing officer said the following of her team, “Achieving Magnet re-designation for the second time is a powerful reflection of the commitment, professionalism, and excellence of our nursing team. This recognition affirms that our culture of patient-centered care, shared governance, and continuous improvement is not a moment in time, but a sustained standard of practice. I am deeply proud of our nurses and interprofessional teams whose dedication continues to elevate the quality and safety of care we deliver to every patient, every day.”
The hospital says it will continue focusing on improving care now renewed through a rigorous process that few health systems achieve.
