UNCASVILLE, Conn. (WFSB) – Marina Mabrey scored 37 points, including 21 in the fourth quarter, to lead the Toronto Tempo past the Connecticut Sun 101-97 on Friday night at Mohegan Sun Arena.
The Sun lost their seventh straight game and fell to 2-15 on the season.
Mabrey, a former Sun guard who played two seasons in Connecticut, got off to a hot start with 11 points in the first quarter. She went 5-5 from three-point range in the fourth quarter to bring the Tempo back from a 16-point deficit.
The Sun jumped out to a 13-point halftime lead behind Brittney Griner and former UConn guard Olivia Nelson-Ododa, who attacked the rim and dominated the paint.
Connecticut led by as many as 16 points in the second half, but the Tempo went on a run in the fourth quarter.
Kennedy Burke scored 18 points for the Sun.
The Sun also lost to the Tempo in overtime last week in Toronto.
Connecticut will try to snap its losing streak Monday night when it hosts the Chicago Sky at Mohegan Sun Arena.
