WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – The Cameron Art Museum hosted its Community Day on Saturday, bringing neighbors of all ages in to explore the museum and make art.
Activities at the event are inspired by the museum’s new exhibits, including the exhibit “Fresh Air: Inflatable Sculptures.”
Activities like an inflatable sculpture workshop, indigo dyeing and community weaving brought visitors into a world of color, texture and movement at no cost.
“We always want to make sure that there’s time for people to come out and experience the museum for the first time,” September Krueger, curator of education and public programs at Cameron Art Museum, said.
Leaders say the event is about building community and showcasing what art can offer.
“Whether it is you with your family, or whether it is the person next to you that you’ve never met before, there’s nothing like being in community together and creating together,” Krueger said.
Three new exhibits are on display at the Cameron Art Museum: “Fresh Air: Inflatable Sculptures,” “Andy Warhol: Silver Clouds” and “Rooted in Memory: The Gullah Geechee Vision of Jonathan Green.”
