A flash flood warning remains in effect for southeastern Jefferson and northern Shelby counties until 5:15 p.m. Saturday, as heavy thunderstorms continue to drench the region.

Local law enforcement reported ongoing, life-threatening flash flooding after 2 to 3.5 inches of rain fell across the area. The National Weather Service warns that creeks, streams, urban areas and highways are experiencing significant inundation.

Affected cities include Birmingham, Hoover, Vestavia Hills and Bessemer. Officials are urging residents to move to higher ground immediately and reminding drivers to “turn around, don’t drown” when encountering flooded roadways.
