There now exists a player on the NHL trade block who fits the stated Pittsburgh Penguins’ requirements. PHN examined the player, his fit, and the trade cost. Meanwhile, Sportsnet mirrored a recent PHN story and looked into the real world costs to acquire picks for the upcoming NHL Draft.

Elsewhere in the Daily, the Carolina Hurricanes dried out enough to have a rowdy Stanley Cup celebration in Raleigh. Vincent Trocheck has hired THE big-time agent to expedite his trade, and the Boston Bruins are listening on their top center.

This should be a fun week. We really could see a Penguins trade or three. I suppose we won’t see any signings–if a player has come this far, this close to free agency, there’s almost no reason to sign now, unless it’s for a max-term deal and none of the Penguins UFAs are those types of players.

All of my favorite conversations in the room over the last two years will be gone soon.

Happy Father’s Day.

Pittsburgh Penguins

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Bo Byram. He’s waffling on a new contract with the Buffalo Sabres because he aspires to be a top defenseman, and that job won’t be available in Buffalo. Trade reports have surfaced. And he checks all of the Penguins’ boxes. So, we took a critical look at his fit with the Penguins and the likely Penguins trade costs.

Steelers Now: Props to Alan Saunders and his team at Stillers, er, Steelers Now. There is ALWAYS a boatload of content. An interesting story from Joe Fitzgerald–are we asking the wrong question about the Steelers quarterbacks?

Pittsburgh Baseball Now: A late rally ended by a controversial call at Coors Field. Did the Pittsburgh Pirates get screwed?

NHL Trade Chatter, News, & National Hockey Now

Sportsnet: We’ve attempted to figure out the value of draft picks and players for a draft day trade. I know a lot of you (and me) are looking at moving up in the 2026 NHL Draft. So, Ryan Dixon at Sportsnet specifically looked at the costs to acquire a top-10 pick.

Carolina Hockey Now: It was a good parade for the Stanley Cup champions. Not only did GM Eric Tulsky give Nic Deslauriers a two-year contract to sign during the celebration, but Seth Jarvis’s childhood friends who travel for his away games made the 30-hour trip, so … the Hurricanes gave them their own float in the parade!

The sights and sounds of the parade.

For the WBS Penguins fans, the Toronto Marlies made quick work of the Calder Cup Final and are the AHL champions. The Penguins really were the second best, maybe THE best team in the AHL. They fell just short in a few games. Fluky bounces.

The Athletic ($): How the Darren Raddysh trade got done and a bit of a surprise, as the Boston Bruins are listening on center Pavel Zacha. The trade rumors are expanding.

NHLtraderumors.me: Vincent Trocheck, meet Pat Brisson. The New York Rangers center has been blowing in the breeze of the NHL trade winds for a year. So, to expedite matters, Trocheck switched agents, enlisting hockey’s big dog to get a deal done.

Detroit Hockey Now: It shouldn’t be too surprising that some former players have some strong opinions on the Edmonton Oilers hiring Mike Babcock. Aaron Ward lit up Edmonton, calling them “idiots” for hiring Babcock.
