Walmart Deals sales event is live. Here’s what you need to know
Scrolling your phone, walking through *** store, or just grabbing one extra thing at checkout. Impulse buying can happen almost anywhere. What is the last thing you impulse buy? I bought *** new GPU for my computer. How much does that cost? $1100. How much money do you think you spend impulse shopping every month? Maybe, depending, $100 to 2, depending on the month, the season. When do you find yourself impulse buying? At night, when I’m doom scrolling. Let’s try something different here. I’m gonna ask people on the internet about their shopping habits too. Tell me, what is the craziest thing you have ever impulse bought? Those quick purchases might feel small in the moment, but can have real consequences over time, draining savings, increasing credit card debt, and making it harder to reach financial goals. Research from Capital One Shopping shows impulse buying costs us around $3400 *** year. So how do you cut back? One of the most effective strategies is to remove temptation altogether. Let me show you. Start by removing stored credit card information from websites where you frequently shop, delete shopping apps off your phone, and unsubscribe to marketing emails. Gmail actually makes that really easy for you to do now. They have *** manage subscriptions tool that lets you unsubscribe to emails en masse. Another small barrier that can make *** big difference, the 24 hour rule. So I have my shopping cart here on my phone, but instead of clicking proceed to checkout, I’m gonna wait 24 hours before I buy this stuff. That initial pause gives the impulse time to pass and gives me time to think through, do I actually need this? It also helps to know your habits. If late night scrolling leads to spending, set *** personal rule to avoid shopping after *** certain time. If you tend to buy when you’re bored, try replacing that habit with something else. We could probably. We all use *** few more hobbies. Finally, I think it’s helpful to give yourself *** small guilt-free spending budget like I just did for this little treat that I just bought. Trying to cut out all spending all the time can backfire and just lead to more impulse buying. Remember, the goal isn’t to never spend money, it’s to be more intentional about when and why you do.
