LA CROSSE (WKBT) — The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse has a new landmark on campus.
UWL unveiled a 10-foot stainless steel “Eagle in the L” sculpture Tuesday, celebrating one of the university’s most recognizable symbols.
The project was funded by alumnus Joe Laux and created by fellow UWL alumnus Luke Achterberg.
Achterberg spent about six months sculpting the piece. The finished artwork weighs more than a ton, making it a prominent new fixture on campus.
“It’s a full circle moment,” Achterberg said. “It’s bringing all of that knowledge, education, study and time back to the place where it essentially started.”
The “Eagle in the L” logo dates back to 1989.
