Steny Hoyer announced his retirement in January, which opened the field with 24 Democrats and three Republicans vying to succeed the 86-year-old former House majority leader. Voters in the Baltimore metro’s Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Harford and Howard counties contested decided races for county executive and County Council\Commissioners seats. Maryland voters are deciding top-level statewide leadership offices. Democratic incumbent Gov. Wes Moore faced a challenger in Eric Felber, and nine candidates ran in the Republican Primary.

Each party in the attorney general’s and comptroller’s races ran candidates who were unopposed.

The incumbents in all of Maryland’s eight Congressional districts faced challengers in their respective primaries. Only the 7th District had a primary in which a candidate ran unopposed.
