Mayfield, NY — Anthony Constantino won the GOP primary for New York’s 21st Congressional District on Tuesday night in dominating fashion. As of this writing, Constantino held a lead over Robert Smullen of 59.3% to 40.2%, that’s with more than 95 percent of the vote counted.
In this race, Constantino had the endorsements of President Donald Trump, Congressman Jim Jordan, former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani and Roger Stone. Meanwhile, Asm. Smullen had the endorsement of the NYS Republican Party and County Chairs of NY’s 21st Congressional District.
Now that Constantino won the Republican line of the ticket, the NYS GOP has thrown their support behind him.
NYGOP Chair Ed Cox issued this statement:
“Republican primary voters have spoken and we look forward to working together to send Anthony Constantino to Congress.”
Meanwhile, Rep. Elise Stefanik, who had not committed to Constantino or Smullen in the race, posted her support for Constantino following his victory.
Asm. Smullen already secured the Conservative line on the ballot in November, leading to a potential for a split ticket in November. Though, to secure the seat in Congress for the Republican party in the midterms, sources say Smullen could be pressured to back off in the coming weeks.
