You don’t need to play a round of golf to enjoy the new restaurant and bar at Elmwood Golf Course.
Legends Lounge & Grille, which opened in March in the public golf course’s new clubhouse at 2604 W. Russell St., will serve food and drinks year-round.
The menu features everything from grab-and-go breakfast items – only during golf season — to made-to-order wraps, burgers, chislic, nachos, fried or roasted chicken and steak for lunch and dinner.
“I’d put our breakfast burrito up against any other burrito in town,” said Cat Clark, market general manager for Landscapes Golf Management, which is in its ninth year of managing the three public courses in Sioux Falls.
“People are praising the food,” Clark said. “It’s very good at a very good price point.”
While many menu items are traditional grill fare, diners will find more unique items like the Renner Corner Meat Board loaded with sausage and smoked ham from the longtime locker in Renner north of Sioux Falls. There’s also braised beef cheek “that’s been really popular because not many places have that,” Clark said.

Clark’s mother-in-law, Shelley Tolopko, has been baking cookies that are individually packaged for sale. Gam Gam’s Goodies come in several flavors. She’s working next to add cheesecake, Clark said.
The previous clubhouse, which was 60 years old, had a small area where golfers could get grab-and-go snacks after a round. Now, they can gather at Legends to review their scorecards over a beer or cocktail while sharing nachos or a basket of fries, he said.
To celebrate the 100th anniversary of Elmwood, the bar has crafted two cocktails: The Wood Old Fashion, which will have a permanent spot on the menu, and Centennial, which is available for a limited time.
There’s also a signature beer, Legends Light, which local Fernson Brewing Co. crafted for the century year. It’s served on tap and in cans.
In addition to seating at the bar and in the dining room, there’s also a covered patio that overlooks the 18th hole. Elmwood also has a nine-hole course.
The adjoining Celebrations Room will help with hosting bigger tournaments, Clark said. Before, event organizers would have to rent a tent to accommodate participants or have them move to another venue for a meal. Unlike the other two public golf courses, which are surrounded by residential neighborhoods, Legends is next to the airport, industrial areas and the convention center complex. It is beginning to gain attention as a dining option before concerts and events at the nearby Denny Sanford Premier Center, Clark said.
Thursday nights feature live music on the patio, which pairs nicely with ladies league play those evenings, he said.

Hours are 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. during golf season and likely will be 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the off-season.
The new clubhouse is a place the entire community can appreciate, Clark said.
“It looks and feels like a country club when you walk in, but we aren’t a member-only place. It’s open to everyone. … This is the people’s place.”
