OMAK, Wash. – A ground breaking ceremony was held on Thursday for the new Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) facility, located at the Omak Airport.
The event was attended by city officials, DNR personnel, and the fire chiefs of the Omak Volunteer Fire Department and Okanogan Fire Department.
“This facility will be crucial for area fire fighting in the future,” Okanogan County Commissioner Jon Neal said.
According to DNR officials, the site will feature a 14-building complex used to sustain DNR’s Aviation program, forest resiliency, recreation and other programs leading operations in the Greater Okanogan County area.
“This project will construct an operations building for aviation operations and personnel, a work center office building for the DNR’s Northeast Region, a shop building, a fire cache and warehouse building, five buildings contributing a total of 36 dormitory rooms…and a small outbuilding to house flammable liquids,” DNR officials stated.
