A new piece of Spider-Man: Brand New Day marketing has given fans another reason to speculate and start connecting the red strings across Peter Parker’s next MCU adventure. The latest reveal comes from a New York pop-up display that appears to show one of the film’s most important street-level threats in clearer detail than before.
The character is Tombstone, played by Marvin Jones III, also known as Krondon. The image appears as part of an in-universe Bugle-style crime board, placing the character alongside other threats expected to factor into Peter Parker’s next story. Jones was previously reported to be joining the film as the longtime Spider-Man crime boss, whose real name is Lonnie Lincoln. In the comics, Tombstone is tied closely to New York’s criminal underworld, which makes him a natural fit for the latest Spider-Man story.
Brand New Day appears to be pulling Peter Parker back toward a more street-level version of Spider-Man. After the multiverse scale of Spider-Man: No Way Home, the new film is being sold as a reset for the character, who is now living alone in a world that no longer remembers him. Marvel’s official materials describe the movie as a new chapter for Peter Parker, with the film directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and set for release on July 31, 2026.
‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Offers A Clearer Look At Tombstone
Marvin Jones’ casting also carries an unusual Spider-Man connection. He previously voiced Tombstone in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and now he’s bringing the character into live action. That gives the role a bit of continuity across Spider-Man media without making the film itself dependent on the animated franchise. The pop-up material appears to point beyond Tombstone as well.
Other images tied to the display have shown or referenced villains including Scorpion, Boomerang, and Tarantula, which suggests Brand New Day may be using New York’s criminal landscape as more than background noise. Michael Mando is already part of the cast as Scorpion, while Jon Bernthal is also involved as the Punisher.
That doesn’t necessarily mean the movie is setting up a simple villain lineup. The more interesting possibility is that these characters represent the pressure closing in around Peter. Holland has already hinted that the villain side of the film has been an active part of the creative process. Speaking about additional work on the movie to GQ, he said:
“The movie works and sings as it is. We’re just adding the icing on the cake in certain areas. We’re finding some ways to add a little bit more humor. We’re layering in a villain plotline in a new way and some really fun stuff.”
That comment leaves room for Tombstone to make more than a brief appearance, but it also stops short of confirming him as the main antagonist. For now, the safer read is that Marvel and Sony want audiences to notice him without fully explaining where he sits in the story.
