Saharan dust limits rain chances Monday; Near-record heat
While only isolated storms are expected Monday, storm coverage will ramp up this week.
FORT MYERS, Fla. —
As lighter concentrations of Saharan dust filter into the Gulf Coast today, rain chances will be limited to isolated storms this afternoon. Many communities will head to near-record highs Monday in the mid 90s with hazy conditions. A heat advisory may be issue later today as feels like temperatures soar to the triple digits.
The National Weather Service will continue to review a tornado that touched down at 5:15 p.m. Sunday in North Fort Myers. The tornado has a preliminary rating of EF-0 with winds estimated at 65 mph. Count on Gulf Coast News to keep you informed of any adjustments.
Your Gulf Coast Most Accurate Forecast says rain chances will ramp up tomorrow through the rest of the week. While no one day will be a washout, an east wind will favor coastal storms over the next few afternoons. The main threats will be heavy rain, frequent lightning and gusty winds.
The wetter pattern is a welcome change as many Gulf Coast communities still face severe and extreme drought.
Looking ahead to the Fourth of July, the heat sticks around with highs in the low to mid 90s. Pack extra water if you’re heading out the the beach or on the boat as feels like temperatures will reach the triple digits. Scattered storms are expected by the late afternoon and evening. Conditions will stay warm and muggy for watching fireworks with lows only in the 70s.

A broad area of low pressure may form off the southeastern U.S. from a stalled front this week. This disturbance poses no threat to Florida and odds for development continue to decrease. The latest odds are only 10 percent over the next two days. The next name on the list is Bertha.
