TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Jazmine Jones, a former multi-time state champion with FAMU DRS girls basketball turned pro basketball player, both with the WNBA and now playing overseas, was back on her high school court to give back to her community.
It’s the first camp Jones has hosted in her hometown and it ran both Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The goal of the camp was to give local girls ages 12-18 the chance to learn skills from one of the best women’s players that has come out of the area.
Jones saying she wants to expand the camp in the future to include boys and hopes that it grows in size too. But this weekend, she says that she’s just thrilled to be back in the gym that gave her so many great memories and helped teach her how to win.
She shared what she hopes the athletes take away from her camp.
“[I just want to] have them learn to grow their game [and] develop something so they could leave here knowing that [they] could get better in ways that [they] didn’t know that [they] could. Just so they can have the different techniques, different styles, different leadership qualities that I instill in myself, so I can instill in them, and they can just take that with them and bring that to their respective high school teams,” said Jones. “If you have this dream, if you aspire to be a collegiate athlete or a professional athlete, just knowing that you can do it if you put the work in, you stay humble, you stay grounded, and be disciplined.”
