Now that’s tough. New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Tyree wasn’t able to participate in Sunday’s preseason game due to an injury, but he was seen observing warmups from the sidelines in street clothes. But he didn’t make it to halftime. With the team catching their breath in the locker room, NewOrleans.Football’s Nick Underhill reported that Tyree was waived with an injury designation. That’s a procedural move to put him on injured reserve.

It’s a bad break for the rookie out of Virginia, but Tyree wasn’t able to distinguish himself much at training camp. Now he’ll go on IR, possibly with a season-ending issue. The alternative is being released with an injury settlement that would pay a portion of his salary but require him to heal up on his own. He could sign with another team after that but it seems likely he won’t play for the Saints again this season.

Injuries have begun to pile up for the Saints at wide receiver. Some of them are only minor, as is the case for Chris Olave, but their other rookie wideout Moochie Dixon was sidelined on Sunday, too. Second-year receiver Bub Means also left this Chargers game with an injury. We’ll see if reinforcements are on the way at a key position group. Stay tuned.
