THIS IS FROM LIVECOPTER3. THE FIRE WAS REPORTED EARLY THIS AFTERNOON. YOU CAN SEE ONE LANE OF TRAFFIC IS GETTING BY AT THIS POINT. THE FIRE STARTED IN DRY GRASS ALONG THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY. THERE. IT THEN SPREAD INTO A GROVE OF EUCALYPTUS TREES. YOU CAN SEE THOSE THERE. AND THAT PROVIDED, OF COURSE, PLENTY OF FUEL AND MADE FIGHTING THE FLAMES PRETTY CHALLENGING FOR CREWS THERE ON THE GROUND, A WATER DROPPING HELICOPTER WAS BROUGHT IN TO TRY AND SLOW THE SPREAD, AND HOMES IN THE AREA WERE EVACUATED AS CREWS ON THE GROUND RUSHED IN TO PROTECT THOSE HOMES. KCRA THREE CECIL HANNIBAL GOT A CLOSE LOOK AT THE DAMAGE THAT FIRE CAUSED. SO FAR, WE KNOW AT LEAST ONE HOME HAS BEEN AFFECTED BY THIS VEGETATION FIRE. YOU CAN SEE RIGHT NOW FIREFIGHTERS CURRENTLY SPRAYING WATER TO FULLY CONTAIN ALL THE HOT SPOTS THAT ARE STILL SMOLDERING IN THIS HOME. YOU CAN SEE RIGHT NOW YOU DON’T SEE THE ROOF BECAUSE IT HAS COLLAPSED. THE ROOF COMPLETELY CAVED IN. THEY’RE ALSO WORKING IN THE BACKYARD RIGHT NOW. IT LOOKS LIKE FROM WHAT WE CAN SEE, AN OUTBUILDING WAS ALSO IMPACTED BY THIS FIRE. NOW YOU SEE FIREFIGHTERS WORKING OVER THERE. THEY’RE ALSO WORKING IN THIS FIELD OF TREES. YOU CAN SEE SMOKE STILL COMING FROM THE GROUND WHERE THERE ARE STILL HOT SPOTS. THEY’RE USING AXES AND RAKES TO PUT OUT THOSE HOT SPOTS. AND I WANT TO SHOW YOU THIS. WE FLIP THE CAMERA BACK TOWARDS THE STREET. THIS IS COUNTY ROAD 88 A, AND THE FIRE DID JUMP OVER THE STREET. AND YOU CAN SEE THE CHARRED SOIL RIGHT THERE. SO THIS FIRE COULD HAVE MADE IT TO THE HOMES ACROSS THE STREET. THANKFULLY, IT WAS CONTAINED BEFORE IT MADE IT THAT FAR, BUT WHAT WE KNOW SO FAR IS AGAIN, ONE HOME HAS BEEN IMPACTED. Southbound Interstate 5 in Yolo County has reopened, following a vegetation fire in the Dunnigan area that prompted nearby evacuations.LiveCopter 3 footage showed one home was destroyed, and several other structures were also burned. (Watch in the video below.) The I-5 closure was at the Dunnigan exit south of the Yolo-Colusa county lines, Caltrans said. California Highway Patrol traffic logs indicated the fire was first reported at 1:22 p.m. Lanes reopened about 6:30 p.m., LiveCopter 3 footage showed. According to Yolo County, there are also nearby evacuations that go as far north as County Road 2 to County Road 6, staying mostly confined to the Dunnigan area.
