The Helena Utility Board is asking customers to immediately conserve water after a major water main break reduced the amount of water reaching the city’s storage tanks.
In an urgent notice posted Tuesday morning, the utility said the break is significantly impacting the water system and that most of Helena is currently being supplied by a single water tank.
Officials are urging residents to use as little water as possible while crews work to address the problem.
“We have a major broken water main which is affecting the amount of water we can get in our tanks,” the utility said. “Please be very conservative with the amount of water you are using this morning. The vast majority of town is running off of one tank.”
