CHICAGO — Fresh off a front office overhaul, the Chicago Bulls have opted for continuity within their frontcourt after re-signing former Gonzaga Bulldog Zach Collins to a two-year, $17 million deal.
Collins was selected 10th overall in the 2017 NBA draft, where he was part of a draft-day trade that sent him to the Portland Trail Blazers. The Las Vegas native spent his first three seasons playing professionally in the Pacific Northwest before multiple ankle surgeries sidelined him for the entire 2020-21 season.
The 7-foot center found his next opportunity with the San Antonio Spurs in 2021-22, a season in which he played 28 games. During the 2022-23 season, Collins played in 63 games while averaging career highs in points, rebounds and assists.
Collins was originally acquired by the Bulls in a three-team deal at the 2025 trade deadline. His 2025-26 season was cut short by toe surgery after just 10 games and a 6-4 start in which he averaged 9.7 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. In 28 games for the Bulls in 2024-25, he averaged 8.6 points and 6.7 rebounds in 19.7 minutes of action.
In his one season at Gonzaga in 2016-17, the Bishop Gorman High School product played in all 39 games, averaging 10 points and 5.9 rebounds on 65% shooting in just 17 minutes per game. As a freshman, Collins was a major contributor on a Gonzaga squad that finished one game short of a national championship in 2017.
