LAINGSBURG, Mich. (News 10) – Black bears typically reside in northern Michigan, but occasionally one will make its way down into Mid-Michigan.
A black bear was captured by a trail camera in Laingsburg Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, raiding a bird feeding station.

Black bears are the only bear species found in Michigan. The Department of Natural Resources estimates there are 12,450 of them living in the state.
Around 10,350 of those bears live in the Upper Peninsula, meaning just about 2,100 live south of the Mackinac Bridge, with most of those bears living in the northern Lower Peninsula.
The DNR says black bears have been pushing south into urban areas of Mid-Michigan.
