SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Gray News) – Deputies in Texas are reminding the community not to leave children or pets inside vehicles after a 4-month-old baby was reportedly locked in a car.
Bexar County deputies said they found a 4-month-old baby locked inside a vehicle with the windows up. The responding deputy can be seen on body-worn camera breaking a window to reach the child.
The baby was not injured.
Days later, deputies were notified of a dog left inside a parked vehicle. Temperatures that day were said to be in the upper 90s, but it was not clear how hot the car’s interior was.
Bystanders rushed in with ice and water, but the dog did not survive.
Arrests were made in both cases.
Both cases come as severe heat grips much of the country.
Even when parked in the shade, vehicles heat up very quickly. Loved ones and pets should never be left inside a vehicle. Officials say anyone who sees a child or animal alone in a car and believes the child or animal is in danger should call 911.
