LOUDONVILLE, Ohio (WOIO) – Mohican Sate Park in Ashland County shared on social media Saturday a black bear sighting.
The social media post said that within the past week, three separate sightings of black bears have been reported from within Mohican’s park property.

With the return of the bears, the park shared a few things to remember to keep yourself and wildlife safe:
If you see a black bear while hiking: Remain calmMake yourself appear largeMake loud noisesSlowly back away from the animalStay on designated trailsKeep food in a secure place while campingReport sightings to the Wildlife Sighting Reporting SystemRespect wildlife to yourself and animals safe
This is exciting news to see the bears return to their natural habitat, the park shared.
The return of the bears means the forests are healthy enough to support animals at the top of the food web.
Mohican State Park said this also means forests are on their way to being a balanced ecosystem.
