MADISON, Wis. — Crews used hundreds of gallons of water and foam to fight a fire at the Dane County Sanitary Landfill Wednesday evening.
Madison and McFarland Fire crews responded to the landfill at 7102 Maahic Way after an employee reported seeing fire coming from the site. Firefighters rushed to the top of the landfill and found a 50 foot-by-50 foot section of trash on fire.
500 gallons of water and foam helped control the blaze, then crews used heavy equipment to dig up and expose hot spots. More fires broke out south of the original section, and another 750 gallons of water and foam were used to bring things completely under control.
Eventually, crews used soil to smother the remaining hot spots. The scene was turned over to the site’s managers.
