LOUISVILLE FOOTBALL’S NOVEMBER SWOON
—Entering the weekend of Saturday, Nov. 8, Louisville football was 7-1 and ranked No. 15 in the country, sitting just outside a College Football Playoff spot. The Cardinals then lost three games in a row between Nov. 8 and Nov. 22.
—The first loss came to Cal in overtime on a night where the Cardinals simply could not contain the Bears’ passing game.
—Six days later Louisville again lost at home, falling to Clemson by a single point in a game where the Cardinals almost had to work to find a way to lose.
—With their dreams of the Playoff completely gone, an injured Louisville team that went to Dallas and got hammered by SMU, 38-6.
LOUISVILLE BASEBALL’S PITCHING
—Despite having the best offensive player in college baseball and one of the best overall offenses in the country, Louisville didn’t even come close to making the NCAA Tournament because of its woeful pitching.
—The Cards finished dead last in the ACC in overall earned runs allowed, second to last in the opponent batting average, and third to last in team ERA.
—The pitching was so woeful that changes to the pitching coaching staff were announced soon after the end of the season.
