EAGLE MOUNTAIN, Utah (KUTV) — An Eagle Mountain family’s home was flooded in the middle of the night.
The flood was caused by a city water infrastructure issue that sent water flowing through their yard and basement.
“I was lying in bed at about 12:30 [a.m.],” said homeowner Colby Sorensen. “I heard a crash, and everything across our basement kind of seemed like just pushed to the side.”

He said he thought a car had crashed into his family’s home.
“The vibration and the pressure that pushed through definitely was just surprising,” he said.
As of Tuesday afternoon, the Sorensens didn’t know what they had lost and were still assessing the damage.
Meanwhile, the City of Eagle Mountain said they were working on cleanup efforts and released the following statement:
“Last night, Eagle Mountain City responded to a water infrastructure issue that affected a small number of homes in the North Ranch neighborhood. City crews worked overnight to repair the issue, and water service has been restored.
The City will continue cleanup efforts today, including removing mud that accumulated in front of an affected home. Equipment needed for the cleanup is scheduled to arrive this afternoon.
City staff have been in direct contact with the homeowner to discuss the situation and provide ongoing support. We appreciate the patience and understanding of the affected residents as our crews complete the remaining cleanup efforts.

Sorensen added that crews have been working around their home.
“They were here all night fixing and repairing, so that was great. The water line is now fixed,” Sorensen said.
Now, the Sorensens are thinking ahead and coming up with ideas on how they will repair the damage.
“Even if that water line broke in the same exact spot, I want to do something to prevent the way that it ran directly to our house,” Sorensen said.
They had plans to move their son down to the bedroom where the water broke through the window.
“Never would have thought that the main would break in the front directly into the house and blow out the basement the way it did,” he added.
