MIDWEST CITY, Okla. –
A Midwest City restaurant owner is hoping surveillance video will help police identify the person responsible for a break-in that caused thousands of dollars in damage.
Danky Burgers owner Danny Nguyen said the suspect broke into the restaurant during the Fourth of July leading to damaged property and cash missing from the register.
Surveillance video shows the suspect approaching the business with their face covered by a hat, sunglasses and a towel.
The video shows the suspect knocking down a security camera before eventually breaking inside.
Nguyen said the suspect took a few hundred dollars, but the repairs will cost much more.
“Damage-wise, I would say three to four thousand,” said Nguyen. “You’ve got to replace the doors, the cameras and the food we lost.”
Nguyen said the money spent fixing the damage was money the restaurant had planned to use for upgrades.
“That money we could have spent on upgrading some of the stuff that we were planning to upgrade, but now we’ve got to put a hold on that,” he said.
The restaurant tried to reopen the next day, but Nguyen said the damage made it difficult for employees to keep up with normal operations.
“Things weren’t working the way they should, so it made it difficult,” said Nguyen. “We had to hand write tickets and we were behind on time and stuff, so we had to close down.”
A police report has been filed and Nguyen is asking anyone who recognizes the person in the surveillance video or has information about the break-in to contact Midwest City Police.
“I hope someone recognizes him or was in the area to see what happened so they can help us identify the suspect so we can just get some justice and make things right,” he said.
Despite the setback, Nguyen said the support from customers has reminded him why he enjoys serving the Midwest City community.
