Last night the Danville Police Department arrested Justin Troy Moore, 36, and Korey Connell Hogan, 30, both of Danville, following an investigation into the recent copper theft that resulted in damage to a Danville Utilities transformer in the Hereford Lane substation on Saturday, July 4, causing an extensive power outage.

Both are charged with:

1. Two counts of § 18.2-162 – Felony damage or trespass to public services or utilities or critical infrastructure

2. Two counts of § 18.2-95 – Grand larceny

3. One count of § 18.2-94 – Felony possession of burglarious tools, etc.

4. Two counts of § 18.2-134 – Misdemeanor trespass on posted property

Moore and Hogan are currently being held in the Danville City Jail with no bond.

The Danville Police Department wishes to acknowledge and thank our community for their assistance in this investigation. Multiple tips and eyewitness accounts were essential in leading investigators to those responsible. This is an active, ongoing investigation and additional charges are pending.
