NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – WVUE won two national journalism awards from the Society of Professional Journalists’ Sigma Delta Chi Awards — one for its coverage of the Bourbon Street terror attack and one for a multi-year investigation into former New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell.
The station won Television Breaking News Coverage (All Markets) for its coverage of the Bourbon Street terror attack. Judges said the coverage was “powerful wall-to-wall” and showed “that speed doesn’t automatically conflict with accuracy and compassion.”
Lee Zurik, Jon Turnipseed and Dannah Sauer won Television Investigative Reporting (Large Market) for “Outside the Office: The Indictment,” a multi-year investigation into former New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell’s misuse of public funds that led to a federal grand jury indictment. Judges called it “a case where diligent reporting paid off in a major way.”
