Three people have died during a shooting outside a Target at 8601 Research Blvd., officials said Monday afternoon.
The suspect reportedly stole a car in the parking lot to get away, before crashing, according to police. He then stole another car from a dealership to get farther from the scene. Police confirmed the suspect was arrested in South Austin sometime after 3 p.m.Â
Austin-Travis County EMS said four patients were treated, with three of them dying from gunshot wounds. The fourth was treated for other injuries. At least one of the injured was a child who was shot, according to police.Â
Authorities are asking people to avoid the area. Police have closed the 8000 block of the MoPac Southbound Frontage Road between Executive Center Drive and Anderson Lane.
The main lanes of both northbound and southbound MoPac remain open.
Authorities say that vehicles in the parking lot will not be allowed to leave until the investigation is complete.Â
