EXCLUSIVE: Fox continues its push into multi-camera comedy, this time teaming with Paul Reiser, co-creator and star of one of the 1990s signature sitcoms, Mad About You. Reiser has partnered on the project with Adam F. Goldberg, creator of one of the most popular family comedies of the last decade, The Goldbergs.
The untitled multi-camera comedy series, currently in development, follows the dysfunctional fallout after the family’s failed-to-launch 20-something son is forced to work alongside his father (Reiser) in the less-than-glamourous New Jersey damaged goods business.
Reiser is writing the script with his son, Leon Reiser, and Goldberg. Paul Reiser and Goldberg executive produce alongside Nacelle’s Brian Volk-Weiss, Michael Pelmont, and Matt Ochacher. Leon Reiser serves as a producer. The sitcom comes from Fox Entertainment Studios.
“So excited to be creating this show with the good people at Fox and my two great partners in crime – Adam F. Goldberg and Leon Reiser,” Paul Reiser said. “This feels like it’s on its way to be something really special.”
As part of Fox’s efforts to get back in the multi-camera comedy business, the network also has in development Perf, created, executive produced and headlined by Andrea Savage, as well as a project starring Earthquake based on his life.
Reiser starred as Paul Buchman on Mad About You for the sitcom’s seven-season run on NBC and its revival by Spectrum. His more recent series credits include Netflix’s The Kominsky Method, which earned him an Emmy nomination, and Stranger Things, Amazon’s The Boys and Hulu’s Reboot. On the film side, he co-wrote and starred in The problem With People and reprised his role as Jeffrey Friedman in Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. Reiser is repped by Gersh, The Nacelle Company, and Del Shaw Moonves.
Goldberg is best known as creator, executive producer and showrunner of the single-camera semi-autobiographical comedy The Goldbergs, which aired on ABC for 10 seasons. This would mark his first broadcast series since then. He is repped by WME, manager Ken Freimann and attorney Bruce Gellman. Leon Reiser is repped by Del Shaw Moonves.
