HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) – Scientists discovered a new species of fish living below Redstone Arsenal.
Matthew Niemiller of UAH and his colleagues found the fish during a routine survey of Bobcat Cave in 2025.
They said the fish looked different than the Southern Cavefish that inhabit the cave, according to WAFF 48’s partners at the Redstone Rocket.
Niemiller named the new species the “Demon Cavefish,” whose scientific name was inspired by the creatures on the TV show “Stranger Things.”
