MADISON (WKOW) — On Wednesday Madison students took part in a national day of social action.
Students from the district’s Freedom Schools summer program marched to raise awareness for youth mental health and wellbeing.
According to a 2025 report from the Office of Children’s Mental Health, half of Wisconsin kids have been diagnosed with a mental health condition.
“We know that kids have taken a big hit, especially since Covid, in their mental health and wellness,” said the program’s Project Director, Darlinne Kambwa. “We haven’t quite seen those numbers rebound the way we’d like. So we’re continuing to ask for action.”
Students carried signs and led staff and people from the community around a neighborhood on Madison’s south side
