WHITESBORO, N.Y. — A raccoon in Whitesboro has tested positive for rabies after two people were exposed.
The Oneida County Health Department reported that the raccoon was sent to the New York State Department of Health Wadsworth Center for testing on July 15, and positive results came back today.
Health officials listed signs of rabies as animals acting strangely, mad or shy, getting unusually close, or drooling or foaming at the mouth.
People are urged not to approach wild or stray animals showing these signs and to call their local animal control officer if they notice any animal acting strangely.
The Oneida County Health Department did not release the area in which the raccoon was located.
