A confident performance in Iasi set the Ukrainian on course for a deeper run at the WTA 250 event. Expect a tougher test in the quarterfinals.

In the Romanian city of Iași, the clay-court tournament of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA 250) UniCredit Iași Open with a prize fund of nearly $250,000 is underway.

The 25-year-old Ukrainian Oleksandra Oliynykova (No. 52 in the WTA rankings) in the second round of the competition secured a confident victory over the neutral Elena Pridankina (No. 201) with a score of 6-1, 6-2 in 1 hour 20 minutes.

Oliynykova will advance to the quarterfinals, her opponent will be the Frenchwoman Claire Burel (No. 630), who in the previous match defeated Elsa Jacquemot (No. 107) – 6-1, 6-1.

The Iași tournament will run until July 19.
