LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Former basketball players took some time out of their day to help feed those in need in Las Vegas on Thursday.
Retired NBA player Doug Lee partnered with Three Square Food Bank, Hope For The City and Mater Academy of Nevada East Campus to provide food to hundreds of Southern Nevada families.
The special distribution event, held alongside NBA Summer League, aimed to address hunger through collaboration.
Derrick Coleman, who played for 15 seasons, said he and other volunteers care about the community and want to turn out to support people in other NBA cities.
“We’re about really coming out and letting people know that we still care about them, regardless of their situation,” Coleman said.
Three Square says one in six Southern Nevadans experiences food insecurity and doesn’t always know where their next meal will come from.
