A driver suspected of DUI during a deadly head-on crash Thursday may have been involved in a hit-and-run crash minutes before, the Elk Grove Police Department said. The Elk Grove Police Department said the crash happened around 9:15 p.m. on Elk Grove Boulevard. A 78-year-old Elk Grove driver in a white sedan was traveling eastbound on Elk Grove Boulevard and approaching Stonelake Club Drive when a silver sedan traveling eastbound got into the westbound lane.Police said the silver sedan then hit the center median, causing it to go airborne before hitting the 78-year-old’s white sedan head-on. He died at the scene.The silver sedan came to a rest, overturned on its side in the center median, police said. The white sedan had major damage to its roof, windshield and driver’s side.Investigators believe the silver sedan driver, a 51-year-old Sacramento woman, was fleeing from a hit-and-run crash that happened earlier on Elk Grove Boulevard near Franklin Boulevard, about a half-mile away from this second crash, police said. Alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash, police said.Both people were sole occupants in their vehicles.Police said the woman was taken to the hospital for serious but non-life-threatening injuries. She may be charged “as the investigation progresses and her medical condition improves.”The identities of both the man and the woman were not released.This is a developing story.
