Prolific points-scorer Caitlin Clark launched herself into the record books, becoming the first player in WNBA history to record more than 40 points and 10-plus assists in a single game in the Indiana Fever’s 110-107 win over the Seattle Storm on Friday (18 July).
Producing a pin-point accurate performance, Clark also became the fastest player to reach 200 career three-pointers in 74 games. Clark smashed the previous record of 81 games held by Katie Smith.
“Some nights, like, you know you have it, even before the ball tips,” Clark told ESPN.
“I felt like it was going to be one of those for me. I feel like you just have to believe you’re going to have those types of nights, and you have to visualise having those types of nights. And I feel like that’s what I did.”
Clark, who landed the winning points, scored a total of 45 points in her offensive masterclass, which is also a franchise record. To add to an all-round brilliant showing, Clark showed off her defensive chops with four steals and two blocks.
The three-time All-Star led Indiana’s fightback after trailing the Seattle Storm by eight points at the halfway mark. Clark scored 16 points in the final period and rounded out her night with four late free throws to seal the victory.
