Stefanos Tsitsipas has hailed Maria Sakkari’s impressive run at the Athens Open, describing it as a “special moment” for Greek tennis as the pair prepare to contest ATP and WTA finals on the same day.
Sunday marks a memorable occasion for Greek tennis, with both Tsitsipas and Sakkari reaching their respective finals. It is the first time since 2023 that the country’s two leading players will compete for titles on the same day.
Sakkari advanced to the Athens Open final after defeating Aleksandra Korneeva in straight sets, while Tsitsipas secured his place in the EFG Swiss Open Gstaad final by overcoming Aleksandr Shevchenko in three sets.
Ahead of the finals, Tsitsipas took to social media to congratulate his compatriot and reflect on the significance of the achievement.

Sakkari will be chasing the third WTA singles title of her career, while Tsitsipas is aiming to lift his 13th ATP Tour trophy and his first since winning the Dubai Championships in 2025.
