(Washington, D.C.) — An Iowa native will serve on the United States Court of International Trade after being confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
The Senate voted Tuesday to confirm Kara Marie Westercamp as a judge on the court. Westercamp is a native of Cedar Rapids and received undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Iowa. The Senate Judiciary Committee, chaired by Iowa U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley, advanced her nomination to the full Senate in April of this year after 12-10 vote. The full U.S. Senate voted to confirm her nomination by a vote of 50-48.
The United States Court of International trade has jurisdiction over cases involving trade and customs law and is composed of nine judges, appointed for life by the president and confirmed by the U.S. Senate. No more than five judges serving on the court can be of the same political party.
