FOND DU LAC (WLUK) – Fond du Lac County will close its inpatient acute mental health center at the end of the year, the County Board decided.
The 15-9 vote Tuesday confirmed the closure of the facility, effective Jan. 1.
Fond du Lac is one of just five counties in Wisconsin with an inpatient mental health unit. Patients will be served by private hospitals or a state facility.
The resolution notes the decreasing use and increased costs, combined with the inability to provide appropriate staffing as reasons for the closure.
The county executive has said the facility lost $1.4 million per year.
