Police: 18-year-old man arrested after firing off shots along I-71 in Silverton
SILVERTON, Ohio —
The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office says that a teenager has been arrested after he is alleged to have fired off multiple shots from a rifle on Interstate 71 on Sunday morning.
According to police, Aaron Phelan, 18, is alleged to have fired off the rounds near the 9.4 mile marker of I-71 North in Silverton.
Officers responded to the scene at approximately 5 a.m., where Phelan was eventually arrested at the scene.
Phelan is being charged with aggravated menacing and discharging a firearm on prohibited premises.
Police say that Phelan had been seen by 911 callers with a rifle in hand while standing near a vehicle that was parked along the interstate just moments before.
Multiple shell casings were recovered at the scene by officers.
Police say that they do not believe that Phelan was targeting vehicles or individuals during the shooting and currently believe no one to have been hurt as a result of the gunfire.
Officers say they are investigating to see if Phelan may have been under the influence of either drugs or alcohol during the shooting.
Phelan is expected to be arraigned in court at 9 a.m. on Monday.
