The “singing janitor” from Terre Haute rose to national fame when he won the Season 19 title last September.

INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana’s “singing janitor” is returning to the “America’s Got Talent” stage Tuesday night.

Richard Goodall, who won Season 19 of the show last September, is among the acts returning for “America’s Got Talent: 20th Birthday Celebration” Tuesday night.

According to NBC, the show “is a love letter to the Acts, viewers, and the star-studded Judges that have shaped the talent competition into the smash success it’s become.” The show’s judges and host Terry Crews will share a behind-the-scenes look at the show, along with interviews with former performers discussing how their lives changed by being on the show.

Goodall, a janitor at West Vigo Middle School in Terre Haute, gained national attention through a school TikTok video of his performance of Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’.”  He sang that song in his audition and later performed the band’s hit, “Faithfully,” on the show.

Goodall also sang Michael Bolton’s “How Am I Supposed to Live Without You?” and “Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor during his run to the “America’s Got Talent” championship.

After winning the $1 million top prize on the show, Goodall performed across Indiana, including the Downtown Indy, Inc. Circle of Lights® presented by IBEW 481, an Indiana Pacers game and at several shows across the state.

“America’s Got Talent: 20th Birthday Celebration” airs Tuesday, Aug. 12 at 8 p.m. EDT on WTHR.
