The start of Tuesday’s Chicago White Sox game against the Detroit Tigers has been delayed because of rain.

“We will provide additional updates as it becomes available,” the Sox wrote on social media.

The estimated start is 7:30 p.m. The game was scheduled to begin at 6:40 p.m. at Rate Field.

The Sox are scheduled to start right-hander Yoendrys Gómez, who was called up Tuesday from Triple-A Charlotte.

Gómez is 1-1 with a 6.62 ERA and 13 strikeouts in 12 relief appearances with the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers and Sox this season.

He is 4-3 with a 2.12 ERA and 64 strikeouts in 14 games (11 starts) with the Knights.

“He’s got a lot of pitches,” Sox manager Will Venable said. “The big step forward with him was that he was throwing them for strikes. He’s done a nice job of going to work and being competitive in the zone with all his pitches.”
