Fremont County Coroner Randy Keller confirmed Tuesday the identity of the deceased person removed from the west side of Skyline Drive on July 20.
The man, identified as 44-year-old Shawn Michael Dixon by dental records, previously went missing from his Cañon City home in September 2023.
Keller went on to note that because of the minimal skeletal remains, the cause-of-death and manner of death are still being determined. The remains will be closely analyzed in the coming months by a forensic anthropologist to fully determine the cause of death.
“We can still run and hopefully get some toxicology results on him also,” Keller said. “And then just with the further investigation from law enforcement, it can help us come to a better determination of cause of death.”
The Daily Record reached out to the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office for comment but was notified that, because of the active nature of the investigation, no comment could be provided at this time.
