FAA lifts ground stop for BWI-Marshall Airport
The Federal Aviation Administration lifted a ground stop at Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport that was in effect due to the severe weather affecting the Baltimore metro area.
The ground stop expired at 8:30 p.m.
According to the federal agency, the airport has an average departure delay of 15 minutes due to the original ground stop.
Other airports in the region, including DCA and IAD, were also affected by similar ground stops.
The weather-related ground stop was in addition to a nationwide ground stop Tuesday evening affecting American Airlines flights due to an IT outage.
A ground stop is a measure taken by air traffic control to halt flights destined for an airport at their point of origin, usually for weather-related issues.
