A teenager is dead after an e-bike and vehicle collision in Lower Manhattan on Wednesday morning.
According to law enforcement sources, officers from the 5th Precinct received a 911 call just before 9 a.m. about the crash near Centre and Chambers Streets, just steps away from City Hall.
A preliminary investigation determined that a 17-year-old boy operating an e-bike was traveling northbound on Centre Street when the two-wheeler collided with a 2008 black Chevrolet Tahoe SUV, operated by a 40-year-old female who was traveling in the same direction.
EMS responded and pronounced the young cyclist dead at the scene. The SUV driver remained at the scene.
Police are withholding the victim’s ID pending family notification.
Multiple NYPD, FDNY, and EMS units were responding to the scene throughout the morning. Commuters should expect delays in the area.
The NYPD’s highway collision investigation squad is continuing the investigation.
